Youth Poster & T-shirt contest

Attention kids! Do you love Sunday school? Are you creative? Do you like to draw? If you do, we would like to invite you to be a part of the 2019 “Sunday School Poster & T-Shirt Contest.” Open to all Sunday school children and youth, ages 6 to 19.

2019 Theme: "I Love The Bible Because..."

What Is The “Sunday School Poster & T-Shirt Contest?”

How can you help your teachers and leaders get the education, information and inspiration that they need to be their very best? We believe that the Pennsylvania State Sunday School Association can provide the help and training that you and your Christian education workers need. What can we do? We offer “Local Workshop Training Programs” where we bring the very specific training that your teachers and leaders need right to your local church and community.

In the “Sunday School Poster & T-Shirt Contest,” we invite children and youth to combine their creative, artistic and writing talents with their love of Sunday school as they create a traditional artist created poster, a computer generated mini poster or a T-shirt on the yearly contest theme.

Items must first be either entered in a local Sunday School Association-sponsored contest OR local church contest.* The first-place winning entry from each age group of each contest at the county or local church level is then eligible to go on to the statewide final contest.

(*) – In counties where there is an organized County or District Sunday School Association group that holds a local contest, entries must first go to that contest. In counties where there is no local organized Sunday School Association group or where the S.S.A. does not hold a county contest, local churches may hold their own contest and submit their local winners directly to the state final. If you are not sure if there is a Sunday School Association-sponsored contest in your county, contact the P.S.S.S.A. office in Harrisburg for more information.

Important notes

The statewide contest will run from January 1, 2019, to October 1, 2019. First place winners in the 6-8, 9-11, 12-14, and 15-19 age groups from each local or church contest must be submitted to the P.S.S.S.A. office in Harrisburg by October 1, 2019.

Winning entries (first and second place) from the statewide contest will be displayed at the 2018 PA State Sunday School Convention.

Prizes at the state level will be as follows for each age group in each contest: First place - $20.00; second place - $10.00.

Who may enter?

Children and youth, ages 6 through 19, who are members of a Pennsylvania Sunday school are welcome to participate. Contest judging is held in four different age groups: 6-8, 9-11, 12-14 and 15-19. First place winners in each age group will advance to the statewide contest in October. Individuals are welcome to enter more than one category.

About the two poster categories:

In the “Sunday School Poster & T-Shirt Contest” we have two different poster categories. First, there are the “traditional artist created posters.” These posters MUST be 14” x 22” in size and can be created using pencil, ink, markers, paint, stencils or collage. The other poster category is for “computer generated mini posters.” These are 8 ½” x 11” posters that are designed, created and printed using a computer. See the rules below for complete details.

What Is The 2019 Contest Theme?

The 2019 contest theme is “I Love The Bible Because...”  Each entry should in some way “convey” the contest theme. The words of the theme do not need to appear on the entry.  It is hoped that this simple theme will not only encourage creativity and originality in the creation of the posters and T-shirts, but that it will also encourage the kids to think about what the Bible really is and what it means to them.
